, and clerical support to the patient care units; supports patient care through processing and managing provider and nursing orders, maintaining the patient medical record within the department; maintaining an efficient, well:organized department by keeping supplies available. The HUC communicates information accurately in a pleasant and efficient manner to a variety of individuals, including but not limited to patients, visitors, nursing and medical staffs, and other departments. The HUC functions as a resource to members of the health care team in matters pertaining to non:direct patient care and is familiar with multiple resources, carries out all aspects of the job using good judgment and problem:solving skills, assumes responsibility for self:development with the role, and participates in performance improvement activities.
Successful completion of a health unit coordinator program or comparable experience (preferred). Current CHUC certification (preferred). High school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer
knowledge and skills. Ability to multitask, work well under pressure and meet deadlines, demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, writing and listening skills. Ability to work effectively in a team setting. Knowledge of medical terminology. Flexibility (Works flexible hours, which include days, evenings, and/or nights, holidays, and weekends). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assembles charts: admission, transfer and discharge. Uses registration system to enter data for admissions, transfers and discharges. Communicates patient information to appropriate team members: nursing, other departments, providers. Completes appropriate forms: computer, consents, paper documentation forms. Obtains records, charts, lab and x:ray reports via computer/ or paper chart. Transcribes providers orders into all appropriate forms and into computer. Enters data into computer for nutrition needs, patient maintenance files, daily assignment sheets, patient directory, 24 hours nursing service report, charges, credits, patient equipment. Performs receptionist functions with patient's relatives and staff. Practices Relationship Based Care Skills. Completes all organizational/departmental requirements and education.
